About the Role
The Associate Chair is a senior leadership position serving as one of two Co-Chairs on the Furever Pawradise Board of Directors. This role is focused on strategic governance, not day-to-day event management. The Associate Chair provides strategic leadership to the organization, presides over Board meetings, and acts as a primary public representative. As a key steward of the organization, the Associate Chair is responsible for upholding the mission, vision, and core values of Furever Pawradise, ensuring its long-term health, integrity, and success.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Preside over all Board of Directors meetings, ensuring adherence to the Executive Handbook and parliamentary procedure.
Provide high-level strategic leadership and oversight to the team of Executive Directors.
Serve as a primary public representative and authorized spokesperson for the Organization.
Champion organizational policies, particularly those related to EDI, Health and Safety, and Harassment and Violence Prevention.
Receive and manage formal reports related to conflicts of interest, Board Code of Conduct breaches, and harassment complaints.
Conduct formal check-in meetings with new Directors to ensure successful onboarding.
Uphold the legal fiduciary duties of Care, Loyalty, and Compliance as a Director of a Canadian Not-for-Profit Corporation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strategic Leadership: Significant experience in a senior leadership or management role.
Non-Profit Governance: Strong understanding of non-profit board governance, fiduciary duties, and policy frameworks.
Public Communication: Exceptional public speaking and interpersonal skills.
Integrity and Discretion: Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with impartiality.
Conflict Resolution: Experience in managing formal complaints and mediating complex issues.
Beneficial Skills
Previous experience serving as a director on a non-profit board.
Direct experience with media relations or acting as a public spokesperson.
Strong understanding of the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
