About the Role

The Associate Chair is a senior leadership position serving as one of two Co-Chairs on the Furever Pawradise Board of Directors. This role is focused on strategic governance, not day-to-day event management. The Associate Chair provides strategic leadership to the organization, presides over Board meetings, and acts as a primary public representative. As a key steward of the organization, the Associate Chair is responsible for upholding the mission, vision, and core values of Furever Pawradise, ensuring its long-term health, integrity, and success.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Preside over all Board of Directors meetings, ensuring adherence to the Executive Handbook and parliamentary procedure.

  • Provide high-level strategic leadership and oversight to the team of Executive Directors.

  • Serve as a primary public representative and authorized spokesperson for the Organization.

  • Champion organizational policies, particularly those related to EDI, Health and Safety, and Harassment and Violence Prevention.

  • Receive and manage formal reports related to conflicts of interest, Board Code of Conduct breaches, and harassment complaints.

  • Conduct formal check-in meetings with new Directors to ensure successful onboarding.

  • Uphold the legal fiduciary duties of Care, Loyalty, and Compliance as a Director of a Canadian Not-for-Profit Corporation.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strategic Leadership: Significant experience in a senior leadership or management role.

  • Non-Profit Governance: Strong understanding of non-profit board governance, fiduciary duties, and policy frameworks.

  • Public Communication: Exceptional public speaking and interpersonal skills.

  • Integrity and Discretion: Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with impartiality.

  • Conflict Resolution: Experience in managing formal complaints and mediating complex issues.


Beneficial Skills

  • Previous experience serving as a director on a non-profit board.

  • Direct experience with media relations or acting as a public spokesperson.

  • Strong understanding of the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
