About the Role
The Legal Advisory role provides general legal advice and guidance to the Board of Directors and Executive Management Team. This position helps the organization navigate legal complexities, ensure compliance, and mitigate risk. The Legal Advisor acts as a critical resource, offering expertise on matters such as contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property, and liability, reinforcing the organization's commitment to Integrity & Trust. This is a non-voting, advisory position.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert legal advice to the Board on an as-needed basis.
Review key contracts and agreements (e.g., venue contracts, vendor agreements) to identify potential risks.
Advise on matters of compliance with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and other relevant legislation.
Offer guidance on policy development to ensure legal soundness.
Assist the Executive Director of Risk Management and Personnel with complex legal or compliance issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Legal Expertise: Must be a licensed lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Corporate/Commercial Law: Experience in corporate law, contract law, or non-profit law is highly desirable.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable advice.
Professionalism: Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and confidentiality.
Beneficial Skills
Experience advising non-profit organizations.
Knowledge of intellectual property or event liability law.
