About the Role

The Executive Director of Risk Management and Personnel is a critical senior leadership role responsible for safeguarding the organization's legal, ethical, and operational integrity. This individual oversees all aspects of non-profit compliance, internal policy, and human resources. The Executive Director ensures that Furever Pawradise operates in full compliance with all applicable laws and that its greatest asset—its people—are recruited, trained, and supported effectively. This role is a key champion of the core value of Integrity & Trust.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direct operational oversight for the Legal, NPO Compliance, and Human Resources departments.

  • Develop and maintain the organization's risk management framework and ensure all operational sectors adhere to it.

  • Oversee compliance with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and other relevant legislation.

  • Lead the Human Resources department in developing and implementing strategies for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention.

  • Serve as a primary escalation point for sensitive personnel issues and ensure all internal dispute resolution is handled according to policy.

  • Oversee the administration of all internal policies, including the Staff Handbook and Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy.

  • Liaise with the Legal Advisory role to address legal matters facing the organization.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Human Resources Management: Significant experience in HR, volunteer management, or a related field, including policy development and dispute resolution.

  • Risk Management & Compliance: Strong understanding of risk assessment and non-profit compliance requirements.

  • Policy Development: Proven ability to write, implement, and enforce organizational policies.

  • Discretion & Judgment: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential personnel and legal matters with impartiality and sound judgment.

  • Strategic Leadership: Experience leading teams responsible for critical internal support functions.


Beneficial Skills

  • A degree or certification in Human Resources (CHRP), law, or non-profit management.

  • Experience working directly with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.

  • Experience in conducting or overseeing internal investigations.
