About the Role

The Treasurer is the Board's lead officer for financial oversight and is responsible for the overall financial health and integrity of Furever Pawradise Inc. This role is a key fiduciary position focused on governance, not day-to-day bookkeeping. The Treasurer leads the Board's financial planning, ensures accurate financial reporting, and presents the annual financial statements at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). This position is paramount to upholding the organization's core value of Integrity & Trust.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Board's annual budget development process, ensuring it aligns with the organization's strategic goals.

  • Oversee the organization's financial planning and ensure its long-term financial sustainability.

  • Review quarterly financial statements and provide clear, insightful reports to the Board of Directors.

  • Ensure adequate financial controls and policies are in place to safeguard the organization's assets.

  • Present the official annual financial statements at the Annual General Meeting as required by law.

  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Development and Partnerships and the Finance Department Manager to ensure alignment between governance and operations.

  • Serve as a member of the Board and fulfill all associated duties of a Director.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Financial Expertise: Strong background in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping. Professional designation (e.g., CPA) is a significant asset.

  • Financial Analysis: Proven ability to read, understand, and analyze financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement).

  • Non-Profit Finance: Understanding of non-profit accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to connect financial data to the organization's broader strategic objectives.

  • Integrity: Unquestionable personal and professional integrity.


Beneficial Skills

  • Previous experience as a Treasurer on a non-profit board.

  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).

  • Knowledge of the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act financial requirements.
